BMCB
Mini-course: "Protein-DNA crosslinking as a tool to investigate
cell biological questions" Research sponsored by NSF Grant #CHE-0242328, "Regulatory Protein-DNA Interactions in vivo Analyzed by Ultrafast Photochemical Crosslinking," an interdisciplinary, collaborative project of the Webb, Lis, Begley, Tye, Alani and Gaeta laboratories. Organizer: Watt W. Webb Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:00-5:50 PM, March 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, and 18 Racker Room, G01 Biotechnology Building. A crucial challenge in post-genomic biology is to understand the network of complex DNA-protein interactions that regulate gene transcription, DNA replication, and repair. The goal of this course is to discuss and outline new technologies that allow temporal and spatial resolution of DNA-protein interactions in living cells. We will discuss existing methods as well as new technologies that employ ultrashort laser pulse optics. Students will write a short paper which will illustrate how these technologies can be used to establish genome-wide maps for particular types of DNA-bound proteins. Tuesday March 2, John Lis, "In vivo studies of protein/DNA interactions that orchestrate transcription regulation". Download Slide movie or Pdf document of lecture. Thursday March 4, Eric Alani, "Genome-wide protein-DNA crosslinking approaches." Download Pdf document of lecture. Tuesday March 9, Bik Tye, "Protein-DNA crosslinking approaches used to study genetic recombination mechanisms." Download Slide movie or Pdf document of lecture. Download reference list pdf. Thursday March 11, Tadhg Begley, "The chemistry and photochemistry of DNA-Protein crosslinking." Download Slide movie or Pdf document of lecture. Tuesday March 16, Alex Gaeta, "Ultrafast laser technology and how it can be applied to studying biological questions." Download Slide movie or Pdf document of lecture. Thursday March 18, Watt W. Webb, "Applications of laser-induced photochemical crosslinking. Protein-DNA crosslinking and visualization techniques." Download Slide movie or Pdf document of lecture. |
